The Mussaenda genus includes about 100 species of cold-tender evergreen perennials, subshrubs, shrubs and climbers that are native to tropical Africa, Asia and Malaysia.

The tubular flowers may be yellow, red, pink or white and each has five spreading lobes. One sepal is usually enlarged and showy.

Mussaenda is not too difficult to grow, preferring some sun, an organically enriched and well-draining soil and water.
