Water lettuce is a floating plant, it occurs in lakes, rivers and canals, occasionally forming large dense mats. As its name implies, water lettuce resembles a floating open head of lettuce and has very thick leaves which are light dull green, hairy, and ridged. There are no leaf stalks. Roots are light-colored and feathery. Flowers are inconspicuous.
